Emma Stone takes the honor of PotW this week. Stone first came to fame in Seth Rogan and Even Goldberg’s Superbad where she showed her talent for portraying a strong female presence. She was next seen in an update of the Scarlet Letter, Easy A and cult favorite, Zombieland (seriously guys. When are we getting a sequel).
An age-old debate has been brought to the collective minds of not only comic fans but also movie buffs alike. Of course I’m speaking of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (The debate on why the film was not called, ‘World’s Finest’ will have to wait for another day).
The Candy Man has left us. Gene Wilder passed away yesterday at the age of 83. Some would call that a long-lived life but I’m greedy. Even though Mr. Wilder had retired from film for quite a few years, he was still active in writing books.
Keeping with the back to school theme from last week, I decided to look at one of the 80’s most remembered comedies. Mainly because they tried to franchise it and run it into the ground like anything else that makes money.
PotW goes to Olivia Wilde who made her feature film debut in The Girl Next door starring Elisha Cuthbert. She then went to the small screen where she wowed audiences in the O.C. She got global recognition in the Disney sequel/reboot Tron: Legacy where she also lent her voice to the video game tie in, Tron: Evolution as well as the accompanying television series, Tron: Uprising.
Most of America’s little darlings went back to school this week, which got me thinking. Mostly how when I was a lad we didn’t go back until the day after Labor Day and that since I currently go to an all year fast paced online university, I don’t get a summer break. Bastards. It also reminded me of some older movies that I could watch to get parents in the mood to see their little offspring off. Not that the joy of not having the little shits away from them for eight hours a day wouldn’t be bonus enough. Think of this as a little extra credit.
Now that the dust has settled on the new trailer for Rogue One, which premiered during the Summer Olympics (USA! USA!) And fandom lost their collective shit, for good reason. I’ve been a Star Wars fan my entire life. I can say they because I was born the same year the first movie was released. Don’t worry about the math I can tell you I’m old.
PotW this week goes to Charlize Theron. Originally from South Africa, Theron made her way into the movies with the classic, Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest. While she was uncredited in the role, her charisma led her to bigger and better films such as That Thing you Do, The Devil’s Advocate and Reindeer Games. Yeah that last one wasn’t exactly a critical or commercial success but I find it to be a guilty pleasure, great for watching on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
It’s been awhile since my last update on the health situation so I figured I’d fill you guys in on the goings on in the Webster household. On my last update I was complaining about having to deal with insurance problems and how asinine companies can be. Well I got that situation taken care of. I now no longer have insurance nor do I have a job in which to get insurance so I showed them didn’t I?
You may be asking yourself, ‘ But how is he surviving with no insurance and no money coming in?’ Well allow me to answer that for you – by the skin of my teeth and the kindness of family and strangers. My parents have been supportive financially and emotionally since, well, my whole life, but they have really stepped up their game in the last couple of years. My in-laws as well have always been there when I’ve had a need. My sister-in-law set up a Gofundme account immediately when I lost my leg. We haven’t reached the goal yet so we are still able to receive donations. I’ll leave a link at the bottom of the blog. Believe me when I tell you there is nothing I hate worse than asking people for money, yet I find I have found myself in situations recently that have given me no other option. If you can’t give, my wife and I would appreciate it if you could simply pass the link around. It takes a few seconds but could have major impact.
Other than that, life goes on. School is going well and the search for new insurance and benefits keeps me busy all day. My leg is almost fully healed so I will be able to begin the prosthetics process for which I am overtly excited to say the least. I’ve narrowed my super villain names to Pig Leg or Darth Obesitus. Until next time, I bid you all farewell. God Bless.
