Yesterday, the world got a bit darker with the loss of phenomenal actor, Alan Rickman. Then again, depending on your point of view, a bit lighter considering the roles he generally played. Rickman was known primarily as a villain, perhaps due to his first an arguably best role of Han Gruber in the first Die Hard. From my first viewing of Die Hard, I was immediately grabbed by Rickman’s performance. It was the first time that I can remember quoting the bad guy just as much as I quoted John McClane, and I quoted him a lot. One may have confused me with the kid from Last Action Hero, were it not several years before the release of that film.
Rickman went to star in some of my favorite films like Quigley Down Under, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Galaxy Quest. The last of which was my favorite Star Trek movie until the reboot. Rickman embodied whatever role he took on and was always a delight to watch. He will be missed. We are truly fortunate to have been able to share in his greatness however short it was.
